Frequently Asked Questions
Will this device keep reflux out of my mouth?
Yes, this is the intent of the NGT+ When a horse produces any pressure change in an oral (toward your mouth) direction, the red valve on the inside slides to the mouthpiece and forms a seal, while opening an exhaust hole to allow a diversion away from your mouth.
Will the ngt+ fit any tube?
Yes, while there are some tubes that require modification (cut down of the collar), the NGT+ will securely fit on the smallest, mila foal tube, to the largest bovine orogastric tubes commonly used for treating bloat.
what if I lost or damaged the mouthpiece on my ngt+?
The mouthpiece is replaceable. While we don’t have these set up in distribution with Covetrus, Midwest, or MWI …. we do have them on our online store, until we can get them into distribution.
What if I removed the valve cover?
The valve cover is not intended to be removed; however, if you still have it, you can repair this component by taping it on the main body.
Can the NGT+ be sterilized?
Yes, the entire device can be gas (ETO or Plasma) sterilized; however, the steam sterilization is too hot for the mouthpiece and it will melt. In order to use a steam autoclave, you have to remove the mouthpiece first.
is safety that big of a deal when using your mouth without the ngt+?
Yes, because there is no reporting agency for these occurrences, published data on aspiration pneumonia and zoonotic transmission of disease from horse to human is hard to find. However, there are many stories we’ve heard from practitioners across the US, Canada, and Europe that confirm that the risks are real, and morbidity from this technique is eminent.
If i order multiple devices, the website shows an exorbent shipping expense, is there a work around for this problem?
Yes, this is an error that we are working on internally. If you see this, please email us (gadgets@vetgadgets.com), and we can adjust the shipping manually and send you a corrected invoice that you can pay online.
Are there any other avenues to pick up ordered devices?
Yes, they are available for pick up in College Station at our Equine pharmacy; otherwise, we will be at AAEP in your distributor booth. We’ve been traveling to all the veterinary schools in the US, and we would love to deliver and demonstrate proper use of this device, just email us to find out when we will be in your area next.
